As part of the 20th Biennale of Sydney, Critical Path will present UK choreographer Nicola Conibere’s work Assembly.

Assembly is designed to be performed in galleries, civic spaces and performance places. Investigating how people appear to one another, the performers respond to the presence of spectators… without asking them to do anything more than watch. Assembly’s cast is comprised of 15 local volunteers, whose backgrounds may or may not include performance experience.

The event is free and audience members may come and go as they please. Presenting a variety of simple formations and movements, the performers will respond to audience arrivals and departures – each time a new audience arrives, a performer will join the action, leaving when that same audience leaves. Humorous and playful, the performers regularly exchange eye contact and smiles with the audience.

Assembly will be performed 1-3 April at the Drill Hall, 1c New Beach Road, Darling Point (Rushcutters Bay). For more information about this performance and others taking place as part of the Sydney Biennale head to www.biennaleofsydney.com.au or www.criticalpath.org.au
