As part of the Next Wave Festival 2014, choreographer Raghav Handa will be presenting Tukre (meaning “Pieces” in Hindi), a work that takes the audience through Handa’s experience of migrating from India to boarding school in Sydney.  The inspiration for this work is the contents of Handa’s luggage when he arrived in Australia. Objects like a needle and thread, a wooden spoon, spices and a frying pan are the starting point for an interactive and moving memory map of Handa’s life and family heritage, revealed through music and dance.

Handa is a choreographer and performer based in NSW, with a background in modern and Australian indigenous contemporary dance. As a performer and collaborator, he has worked in Australia and overseas with many leading Australian choreographers including Marilyn Miller, Martin del Amo, Vicki van Hout, Narelle Benjamin and Sue Healey.  In 2012, Handa choreographed his first solo work KumKum, which premiered at Freshly Squeezed (PACT).
