Gailene Stock, the director of the Royal Ballet School, has been awarded a CBE in the Queen's Birthday honours list. The award is in recognition of her work for the School and for her generous services to dance. However, the accolade comes as the esteemed teacher is struggling with cancer - she is suffering from a brain tumour.

Gailene has returned home following treatment and is being looked after by family and friends with support from specialist carers. Well wishes continue to pour in from around the world and these are proving to be a great lift to Gailene, Gary and the family.

Australian-born Gailene Stock has been director of the Royal Ballet School since 1999, a role she took on following nine years as director of the Australian Ballet School.

Stock’s family has asked that people refrain from sending e-mails and texts to her directly but instead send messages to the attention of Rachel Hollings or via email to rachelh@royalballetschool.co.uk.
