Our very own Irina Kuzminsky is heading to New York to present her one-woman show, Dancing with Dark Goddesses, in a three-night season at Manhattan Theatre Source, an off-Broadway venue in Greenwich Village.
Aside from her incisive reviewing for Dance Australia, Kuzminsky is a musician and poet. Dancing with Dark Goddesses, which she wrote and choreographed, combines dance, poetry and her original musical compositions to explore the notions of the feminine. It is a culmination of her poetry collection of the same name and Would that I Could, a CD of her poems set to music, which also form the background to the show. Her work channels the energy of the words and music into dance movement that is underscored by formal training.
The New York season runs November 10 to 12 and follows the month-long EstroGenius 2011 series at the theatre which “heralds a series of female voices”.
