Caroline Hamilton, who hails from Maldon in central Victoria, is about to see a dream realised when her first book is released in London.

The book, Anna Pavlova: Twentieth-Century Ballerina, is being published to coincide with the centenary celebrations of the Russian ballerina’s permanent move to London and her home, Ivy House.

Hamilton (23) is a graduate of Bendigo Senior Secondary College. She moved to London to pursue a career as a costume maker and designer. Her speciality is the Ballets Russes de Serge Diaghilev and Anna Pavlova Ballet companies.

The glossy volume celebrates Pavlova’s life as an inspirational dancer, an independent career woman and a mega-star, loved by the media and her audiences throughout the world. Dealing largely with the great ballerina’s life outside of her native Russia, the publication features a wide range of archival material, much of which has never been published before, including some photographs taken in Australia.

The book will be launched in June at the London department store Selfridge & Co, where Pavlova herself loved to shop. Royalties from the sale of the book will go towards the student scholarship and bursary programme at the Royal Ballet School. Caroline Hamilton is also the writer and researcher for the production An Intimate Evening with Anna Pavlova that takes place as part of Pavlova 2012 at the Royal Opera House, London on the 17th of June. Anna Pavlova: Twentieth-Century Ballerina was written together with Jane Pritchard, Curator of Dance at the Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) and published by Booth-Clibborn Editions. See here/
