The October/November issue of Dance Australia is here and it’s packed full of features and news, including our annual careers special! We're thrilled to have Bangarra Dance Theatre on the cover, just announced as winner of the 2017 Australian Dance Award for Outstanding Performance by a Company. Congratulations Bangarra!

Designer, producer, presenter and venue manager, actor, teacher, Pilates instructor… these are just some of the occupations we’ve profiled in this year’s Careers Special, a feature dedicated to looking at dance-related careers for those who are retiring from the stage or wish to pursue a dance-related job that isn’t performance. Plus Karen van Ulzen explores the changing attitudes towards dance training that are enabling dancers to diversify early in their career or full-time training.

In "Great Collaborations", we feature the winners of the 2017 Australian Dance Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance on Film or New Media, the Samaya Wives. Gentle but fiery about their art, the Samaya Wives are photographer Pippa Samaya and dance artist Tara Jade Samaya. The pair spoke to Nina Levy all about what makes their professona and personal collaboration tick.

Dedication has paid off for triple threats Samantha Leigh Dodemaide and Ash McCready. In her Showtime column, Sally Clark catches up with these two impressive young women.

What’s it like to be a ballet master or mistress? Emma Sandall chatted to ballet masters and mistresses from American Ballet Theatre, the Australian Ballet, West Australian Ballet and Queensland Ballet to find out more about the people who teach our dancers.

Coffee anyone? If you rely on caffeine to get through you day, make sure you check out Fiona Sutherland’s latest nutrition column, with all the info about caffeine: its impact on your body, the health risks, and how much is too much.

The dance stage is, traditionally, the domain of the young, but this needs to change says Matthew Lawrence. Find out why Matthew loves seeing older dancers performing in “With age comes wisdom”.

Plus we’ve got results from the Brisbane Performing Arts Challenge, tips for writing grant applications, beautiful photos of the Sydney Eisteddfod winners, advice from Emma Sandall about whether the mirror is a useful tool… or not, information about Expressions Dance Company’s new youth ensemble… and more!

Don’t miss out! Buy the new issue at your favourite magazine retailer or subscribe here, or purchase an online copy via the Dance Australia app.
