Ballet Theatre of Queensland has a new artistic director – or rather – two new artistic directors: Timothy Brown and Libby McDonnell.
The company has been seeking new leadership since the former artistic director Boris Bivona stepped down in January upon the sudden passing of his wife and co-artistic director, Jodi White.
Brown and McDonnell are both choreographers and performers. Brown has worked extensively with Queensland Ballet and Expressions Dance Company touring throughout Australia, Europe and Asia.
McDonnell has danced with independent contemporary choreographers such as Csaba Buday and Gavin Webber. She is resident choreographer with Blue Roo Theatre Company, a company specialising in making performance with adults with disabilities. The two became a creative force while collaborating on a new work for Expressions in May, 2011.
Their first task as artistic directors of BTQ was to audition last Sunday for a new cast for the company’s 2012/13 season.
