Fresh from a premiere season in Germany, “New Breed 2015” will play Carriageworks, Sydney, December 8 to 13.

An annual program, “New Breed” provides an opportunity for young Australian choreographers to create a work on dancers of Sydney Dance Company (SDC). Two choreographers are selected from the independent sector and two from SDC. The program is co-presented by SDC and Carriageworks.

This year’s “New Breed” choreographers are Kristina Chan, Fiona Jopp (SDC), Bernhard Knauer (SDC) and Daniel Riley.

The German premiere will take place this week, on November 26, at Germany’s renowned Festpiele Ludwigshafen. For all four choreographers, presenting work at a major European festival is an honour and exciting opportunity. For German-born SDC company member Bernhard Knauer, however, it has special significance. His work, Derived, is inspired by and set to the music by his father, composer Jürgen Knauer. For the German performance, the music will be played live on stage by his brother, Martin Knauer, and Friedwart Dittman. (In Sydney a recording by the two musicians will be played).
