Australian audiences will soon be able to enjoy the magnificent Netherlands Dance Theatre in a filmed live performance at the cinema.

Pathé Live and Sharmill Films (Australia) in partnership with Netherlands Dance Theatre (NDT) has announced its very first captured live in HD screening: “Move to Move”. This event was broadcast live in 400 cinemas across Europe and will screen in Australian cinemas nationally on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 September.

This unique event will be followed by a season of four further performances captured live in high definition in 2013.

The Move to Move program kicks off with NDT2 production Left Right Left Right (pre-recorded) which will be followed by three captured live pieces: Secus by Ohad Naharin and Shine a Light (a new creation and world premiere) and Silent Screen, both by house choreographers Sol Leon and Paul Lightfoot. (Silent Screen was one of the works the company brought to Melbourne last year.)

Specifically shot for the big screen, filmed in high definition and 5.1 sound with six cameras, these screenings provide a unique opportunity for the audience to experience an unprecedented proximity with the artists and enjoy a unique look behind the scenes of a world-renowned contemporary dance company.

Robert van Leer, managing director of NDT (Netherlands): “I'm very excited with the prospect that we're going to be shown on the cinema screen and that this is going to be shown around the world. We do have an international name and reputation, but I still think to see the company in these kind of terms, closer and on screen, is a strong new step forward for the company and it's a great opportunity.”
