My Fair Lady Returns to Sydney for Spectacular 70th Anniversary Season
Celebrating 70 years since it first dazzled Broadway audiences, My Fair Lady will return to the Sydney Opera House in September 2026 in a revival that promises to be both spectacular and historically significant.
Directed by musical theatre legend Julie Andrews and co-directed by celebrated Australian director Karen Johnson Mortimer, this production is a tribute to one of the most beloved musicals of all time. First seen in Australia in 2016, the staging was praised for its elegance and its faithful homage to the original. Its return in 2026 marks a major milestone for the musical itself and coincides with Opera Australia's platinum anniversary, making it a double celebration of enduring theatrical excellence.
“My Fair Lady is a grand and ground-breaking musical which, alongside Opera Australia, I present with immense pride,” said Producer John Frost. “I look forward to introducing the beloved story of Eliza Doolittle and Henry Higgins to a new generation of theatre audiences along with so many who will return to hear one of musical theatre’s greatest scores and witness a breathtakingly beautiful production.”
With unforgettable songs including Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?, I Could Have Danced All Night, and Get Me to the Church on Time, the show continues to captivate audiences with its wit, romance, and themes of transformation and identity.
Karen Johnson Mortimer brings a wealth of experience to the production. She served as Associate Director on the 2016 staging and has an impressive career as both director and performer. Her credits include Wicked, Annie, Dirty Dancing, Chicago, and many more, along with extensive work in choreography and live performance television. Her return to My Fair Lady ensures a rich blend of tradition and fresh artistic insight.
The 2026 season offers a rare opportunity to revisit a golden classic, reimagined by two leading women of the stage. With Opera Australia at the helm, My Fair Lady is set to charm audiences all over again.
