MoveMe pass makes dance accessible for WA punters
September is going to be a big month for dance in WA, as the MoveMe Festival returns. This year’s festival, which takes place 15-18 September, will see STRUT Dance present Ohad Naharin’s Decadance. This Perth season of Decadance is the culmination of STRUT Dance’s three year collaboration with Gaga, the movement language of Batsheva Dance Company’s artistic director, Ohad Naharin.
The second event on the program is Co3’s the cry, a new a new work by Raewyn Hill, with a live score by New Zealand musician Eden Mulhollond. The final work on the program is Dark Matter, created and performed by PRAXIS and presented by Performing Lines WA. Combining the movement of five dancers with digital projection mapping, a pulsating live score and over 1000kg of rice(!), Dark Matter explores human displacement, adaptation and resilience.
Committed to ensuring that the festival events are accessible to all, the presenters, Ausdance WA, Co3, STRUT Dance and Performing Lines WA have created a festival pass that includes access to the festival’s three main shows and a sundowner party, DrinkMe, where audience members can meet the dancers and creative teams. The festival pass is $80/$65 (standard/conc) and the only catch is that there are limited passes available. Early bird sales finish 19 August, unless sold out earlier, at which point the price increases to $100 standard/$80 concession.
Programmed to coincide with the festival, the Australian Dance Awards, presented by Ausdance National, will take place Sunday 18 September at the State Theatre Centre of WA. Other events that will be taking place alongside the core program include STRUT Dance’s “Prime Cuts”, satellite performances from West Australian Ballet and Force Majeure, a teachers’ forum, CircuitWest conference, Q&As, talks and more!
