Men in Pink Tights

It seems audiences can’t get enough of men in tutus. Les Ballets Trocadero de Monte Carlo was founded in 1974 and is still going strong. And now there is a spin-off (so to speak): Les Ballets Eloelle (LOL – geddit?), a company of 20 male dancers that hails from New York.

Les Ballets Eloelle is under the direction of Victor Trevino, who was a member of the Trocks for nine years. It began as the Grandivas and toured Australia in 2007 with the title Men in Tutus. This year the company is returning again to Australia, this time under the title Men in Pink Tights. And of course there will be tutus, pointe shoes, grease paint and hairy chests aplenty.

Les Ballets Eloelle's boast a repertoire of over 50 classical ballets. The dancers are all fully trained and performed with companies the calibre of Houston Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, Martha Graham Dance Company and New York City Ballet. The program promises to be a mix of of brilliant dancing technique, tongue in cheek and blatant humour with intentional foibles, dancing mishaps and of course hissy fits by men playing both male and female roles.”

The company is undertaking an extensive three month tour, beginning in March, that takes in regional and city centres all over Australia.
