Melbourne City Youth Ballet (MCYB) presents its first production for 2017, Coppelia, at Darebin Arts Centre, 24-26 February.

Reinterpreted by MCYB artistic director Yuiko Masukawa, Coppelia tells the story of young betrothed couple, Franz and Swanhilda, who find themselves in hot water when Franz is fooled by the eccentric Dr Coppelius and unsuspectingly, falls in love with the beautiful doll Coppelia. Franz’s jealous bride-to-be, the mischievous Swanhilda is also unaware of the mistaken identity and must devise a plan to save her love before it’s too late.

Masukawa reports that the young dancers have been working hard in preparation for Coppelia. One of MCYB’s aims, she says, is to give young dancers the change to perform in a “well-known, traditional classical production” such as Coppelia.

Comical and heart-warming, MCYB’s production of Coppelia is suitable for all ages. More info at http://melbournecityballet.com.au/mcyb/
