Melbourne City Ballet (MCB) will launch a new performance series this week. Entitled Studio Sessions Series, these performances will take place four times a year, providing MCB with a platform to showcase works that would not otherwise be seen by audiences. The works will come from the company and its training programs.

The first event, Studio Sessions 1 takes place Friday 18 March at the Melbourne City Ballet Centre in Coburg. The program will pay tribute to Marius Petipa by presenting exerpts from two of his most famous ballets; “Grand Pas de Deux” from Pacquita (finishing year students) and “Wedding Pas de Deux from Don Quixote (guest company artists). Elite program students will present an adaptation of Petipa’s choreography from Arthur Saint-Leon’s “Czardas”, from Coppelia. The young artists will also present a selection of contemporary works.
