In 2016 Melbourne Ballet Company (MBC) will present a trilogy of mixed bill programs, entitled "Intention and Desire". Each program will explore an aspect of Picasso’s work Guernica.
The first chapter of the trilogy, “The Veil of Maya” is a triple bill, featuring works by Lucas Jervies, Alexander Baden Bryce and Timothy Podesta. “The Veil of Maya” explores the concept of illusion versus reality reflecting on the most disturbing aspects of Picasso’s work. The Veil is a frightening illusion which can obscure human perception of reality – what exists and what does not. For many who believe that in love we find completeness – such a delusion is regrettable – blinding men into falling in love.
“The Veil of Maya” plays Hawthorn Arts Centre, Melbourne, 4 and 6 March and the Alex Theatre, Melbourne, 11-12 March.
