Congratulations to young dancers Belle Beasley (NSW), Olivia Paine (NSW) and Samuel Pereira (VIC) who have been announced as winners of the 2014 Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarships, which support young Australians in furthering their artistic gifts both locally and globally through travel. All three dancers graduated last year, Olivia and Samuel from the Australian Ballet School and Belle from the National College of Dance in Newcastle, and all willl use the scholarship to travel overseas and audition for programs overseas continue their training.
Established by the late theatrical artist John Chisholm Marten in his will in 1964, the ballet scholarships are awarded to outstanding Australian-born artists between the ages of 17 and 35 years old. Worth $20,000 each, the scholarships were also awarded in the categories of architecture, instrumental music, poetry and prose.
