As Dance Australia reported last month, research has shown that dance can improve the quality of life of people with Parkinson’s Disease. It’s exciting to hear, then, that the Mark Morris Dance Group will be bringing their Dance for PD (Parkinson’s Disease) program to the Sydney Opera House this June, along with their performance program.

For people with Parkinson’s and their carers, a free community dance class, led by dancers from the Mark Morris Dance Group alongside American born, Australian-based dancer Erica-Rose Jeffery, will be held Sunday 7 June. Jeffrey is Dance For Parkinson’s Australia program co-ordinator.

For dance teachers, a two-day introductory teachers’ training workshop will also be held 6-7 June. This workshop aims to assist in growing the network of teachers qualified to lead dance classes for people with Parkinson’s Disease.

The Mark Morris Dance Group will also hold two education workshops for school students, including a dance class for students with physical and intellectual disabilities, and a master class for talented dance school students.

Further information and links to register for the Dance for PD and teachers’ workshop can be found on the Sydney Opera House website at sydneyoperahouse.com
