Fresh off the back of a European tour, LINK Dance Company (LDC) is preparing to tour to Melbourne and Sydney at the end of this month. This thought provoking contemporary dance season, entitled "Outside In", features new works by Frances Rings, Paul Selwyn Norton, Michael Whaites and Ross McCormack.

Frances Rings has created a beautiful, organic new work pulsating with life, entitled Hybrid. Inspired by her Indigenous background and a connection to the natural world, this work explores the imaginings of human/plant relationships through botanical mythology and is set to an evocative soundscape from musicians Zoe Keating and David Page.

Paul Selwyn Norton has created a work specifically for the eight dancers of LDC, entitled Moon/Hammer Cycle. Set in a field of nine helium balloons, the work explores groupings of people and their various dynamics, celebrations, ritual, anarchy and individual’s influence over the group.

Michael Whaites, Artistic Director of LDC, has created Poem for an Ailing World.  Prompted by Whaites’s concern for the environment and the body within it, the work draws on reactions to built and natural spaces and explores how the body is affected by its environment.

New Zealand dancer/choreographer and Helpmann Award-winner, Ross McCormack, choreographed I Said Ha Ha for the LINK dancers.  I said Ha Ha Is a collage of actions and results, inspired by the expressions and reckless movements that make up or form the state of childlike behavior.

LINK Dance Company is the graduate-dance-company based at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.  Dancers who have completed a three year tertiary dance course can apply for admission to LINK’s one year postgraduate program.  It offers a select group of graduate dancers a unique transition year between training and ‘the profession’ whilst still supported by a conservatory environment.
