WAAPA’s LINK Dance Company will be finishing the academic year with a season in Perth before heading off to tour Melbourne and Sydney.
LINK’s final 2013 season in Perth, a work entitled Hanging Space, is a one-hour, site-specific promenade performance across five locations at the Western Australian Museum, from 30 October to 3 November.
Choreographed by LINK artistic director Michael Whaites and Laura Boynes, Hanging Space explores notions of physical perspective and personal perception. The audience will experience this concept physically, as they view the work in various familiar and unfamiliar spaces. Weaving together sound, movement, text and film, Whaites and Boynes offer a new angle on performance.
LINK will then head East to present “Moving Object”, a triple bill of new works by local choreographers (and WAAPA graduates) Rachel Ogle, and Kynan Hughes, and Italian dancer/choreographer/musican, Alessio Silverstrin.
We Are Made of Stardust, by Ogle, explores our intimate relationship to the cosmos and the interconnectedness of the universe to our elemental core.
Silverstrin’s Zodiac Dialogues fuses dance with Stockhausen’s Tierkreis, a music score with 12 melodies representing the 12 signs of the zodiac.
The Opposite is True, by Hughes, started as a work about communication and how one word or action can change everything. As the work took shape, it shifted and became an amplified reflection of the dancers’ own group dynamics.
