Leigh Warren Dance has announced that former Australian Dance Theatre dancer and choreographer Daniel Jaber will take over from Leigh Warren as the company’s resident choreographer in 2014 and artistic director from 2015.

Jaber has received critical acclaim both as a dancer and choreographer.  His 2013 work for ADT, Nought, was the first full-length work commissioned by Garry Stewart since he started directing the company in 1999.  Jaber has also worked internationally Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, France and Nederlands with various choreographers and companys, including Joachim Schloemer, Tchankee Dance Company, Companie PVC, Frances d’Ath, Alison Currie, Clint Lutes and presented work in the Lucky Trimmer Tanz Performance Serie, Berlin.

Warren is thrilled with Jaber’s appointment.  “I’m proud to say that since we began Leigh Warren Dance we have constantly evolved, entertained and challenged our audience so I see the appointment of Daniel as an extension of LWD’s vision and another exciting part of the journey for our audience,” says Warren. “The future of LWD and indeed dance in Adelaide is in excellent hands with Daniel’s energy, talent and determination to nurture the next generation of Adelaide’s dancers.”

Needless to say, Jaber is looking forward to his new role. “Like Leigh, I love Adelaide and I have made it a point to develop my career in here, not only for myself but for to help future generations of dancers and audiences,” he remarks. “Leigh and I are different people with different backgrounds so there will obviously be a contrast in the subject matter and themes in future LWD work but I believe there will also be a strong sense of continuity as well. My work will be informed by the same dance literacy, dance styles and dance technique foundation I’ve always admired in Leigh’s work.”
