Congratulations to Lania Atkins, winner of the 2016 Sydney Eisteddfod Ballet Scholarship, held at the Sydney Opera House on sunday 14 August. Lania is a student of the Dance Spot (NSW).

Lania’s prize is an $18000 scholarship to assist in furthering her training to become a professional ballet dancer.

Runner up was Joshua Price of Amanda Bollinger Dance Academy in Queensland, who received a scholarship of $12000.

Both winners will have the opportunity to attend classes and observe rehearsals [at the discretion of the artistic directors] with The Australian Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet (UK), Houston Ballet and Houston Ballet Academy (USA), Northern Ballet (UK) and Queensland Ballet. They will also be able to attend classes with the English National Ballet School and The Royal Ballet School, both in London.

Joshua Price and Luke Dimattina (Victorian College of the Arts), received the Australian Conservatoire of Ballet Performance Awards with the offer to perform with a full orchestra in the conservatoire’s full length ballet production in December. They will each receive a performance fee of $1,500 and airfares.

Dance Australia warmly congratulates winner Lania Atkins, runner-up Joshua Price and all finalists in the Sydney Eisteddfod Ballet Scholarship for 2016.

The Open Jazz Dance Group Finals were also held on Sunday. Congratulations to National College of Dance, who won this event with with their routine to Lean On by Major Lazer. National College of Dance received a prize of $2,500. In second place was Capital Performance Studios, with Brent Street in third place.
