The Musical Theatre world was buzzing late last year when industry royalty hit our shores and subsequently our audition rooms.

Pressure intensified for attendees at the first round of auditions for My Fair Lady held in Sydney in early November 2015 with Dame Julie Andrews sitting on the audition panel.

Andrews is directing the 60th anniversary production of the Lerner and Loewe classic, due to run from August 30th to November 5th at the Joan Sutherland Theatre in the Sydney Opera House. Andrews sat in on the second round of auditions all the way to the end. By all reports she was generous with her time and direction, taking the care to workshop attendees songs mid-audition to produce their strongest performances.

My Fair Lady is presented in Australia by Opera Australia in conjunction with John Frost.

The ensemble will be composed of singer-dancers so a strong ability in both will be required. The chorus will play a variety of roles throughout the show including the servants, flower girls, and ascot race patrons and employees. The Embassy Ball is rumoured to be a big piece for the ensemble in this production.
