Three male and three female professional dancers are required for a remount of Cadi McCarthy’s Behind the Veneer, to be presented in Perth in March 2015.
Behind the Veneer is a repertoire work of Buzz Dance Theatre. It will be presented at the Dolphin Theatre, University of Western Australia, supported by the Contemporary Dance Company of Western Australia. In January 2015 the education programs from Buzz Dance Theatre and the youth programs from STEPS Youth Dance Company will join to form the community engagement programs of the Contemporary Dance Company of Western Australia.
Behind the Veneer is a highly physical and accessible dance theatre work that unravels the many and varied masks we wear to function in different situations, to stay in control and keep relationships afloat. The work provides an insight into the games we play to preserve innermost feelings and insecurities. It explores themes of self-identity and the facades we develop to hide and conceal our true identity.
