James Welsby doesn’t shy away from big issues. His 2014 work Hex, which is currently touring Australia, reflects on AIDS, activism, sex and disco through the eyes and bodies of a younger generation. Depicting the arc of the AIDS epidemic and its impact on the LGBTIQ community, the show provides a catalyst for discussion about what the AIDS crisis means for those born after 1981.
Hex premiered at Next Wave Festival 2014 and was part of The Australian Cultural Program – AIDS2014. The show is about to open at Fringeworld in Perth and will continue on to the Adelaide Fringe. From there it will head to the Sydney Mardi Gras, before heading to Canberra for a one-night-only performance.
