Matthew Day will present his new work Assemblage #1 at Dancehouse this November. Created in collaboration with Tim Darbyshire and Martin del Amo, Assemblage #1 is a solo performance by Day. The work harnesses an impassioned commitment to the present moment, moving in multiple directions simultaneously to raise questions about instinct, animality, catastrophe and excess.

Wearing a light grey jogging tracksuit, Day uses energetic intensity and stillness, duration and repetition, to activate a field of relations between materials, actions, movements and perceptions, which unfold along wild lines of flight and fancy. In a queer way, Day proposes alternative experiences of what matters in being together, and forever, as he continues to draw heavily from the visual arts to challenge traditional notions of image, object and body.

Day is an Australian choreographer based between Melbourne and Amsterdam. He is currently resident at Dancehouse under the “Housemate” program.
