LINK Dance Company, the pre-professional dance company linked to the WA Academy of Performing Arts, is presenting a triple bill of new dance works by Australian artists in October.

Called SURGE, the program will bring together emerging choreographers Liesel Zink from Brisbane and Matt Cornell from Darwin with established Australian dance maker and LINK Artistic Director, Michael Whaites.

Liesel Zink is a Brisbane based dance artist who is heavily influenced by psychology and sociology research. As a choreographer, she has created works for Expressions Dance Company, Tasdance and Artslink.

Cornell is an inquisitive choreographer who has adventured through Australia, Europe and Asia immersing himself in contemporary dance, theatre, installation, film, rock concerts, video clips, and street art with groups including DanceNorth (Gavin Webber), Davis Freeman, Lisa Wilson, Shaun Parker Company, Strings Attached, Angela Goh, Nick Power, Legs On The Wall, Tiffany-&-the-Curls and Style Impressions Krew.

LINK Dance Company was created to give dancers the opportunity to make a smooth transition from student to professional life and is structured exactly like a professional company with two seasons annually as well as an Australian and European tour, from which they have just returned.  This will be the first time it has performed at the WA Ballet Centre. “Not only are we eager to showcase our amazing dancers and these stunning new works,” says Whaites, “but we are also collaborating with two students from WAAPA’s acclaimed Composition & Music Technology program.”

Dates: October 16th, 17, 18.
