Want to see behind the scenes of the Australian Ballet, the Bolshoi Ballet, the National Ballet of Canada, the Royal Ballet and San Francisco Ballet… all in one day and from the comfort of your own computer?

On Wednesday 1 October, the first World Ballet Day will see each of these five companies will stream live, behind-the-scenes action from their rehearsal studios.  Streaming will begin at 12pm local time and will continue for a four hour period.  The first company to go live will be the Australian Ballet, followed by the Bolshoi Ballet, then the Royal Ballet, then the National Ballet of Canada and finally San Francisco Ballet, taking viewers from Melbourne to Moscow to London to Toronto.

Viewers will be able to watch the five companies’ morning classes and rehearsals for upcoming performances.  They will also be able to engage and interact with dancers, choreographers and coaches via Twitter.  In addition, viewers may contribute by submitting film footage of themselves doing a pirouette.  These will be edited into a film celebrating the appeal of dance around the world.
