Earning the title of Miss World Queensland this year saw Jordan Tiarne Paterson raise over $12000 for Variety - the Children’s Charity. One of the biggest fundraisers was #GUD, the Get Up & Dance Challenge. “My sister and I started up #GUD, a brand new dance competition for kids aged between 6 and 17 years, to raise awareness and funds for kids their own age who don't have the luxury of dancing every week due to sickness or other disadvantages,” explains Paterson. “We even had professional performers throughout the day to inspire our younger competitors and to also showcase a healthy environment and that there is more to dance comps than a crown or a tittle.”
“#GUD was put together in under 3 weeks,” continues Paterson. “There were many sleepless nights and a lot of stress to get it all finalised but the end result and seeing everyone on stage for a final dance knowing that they were helping Variety the children's charity was beyond worth it.”
Paterson hopes that #GUD will continue to flourish. Growing up in the creative industry and dance world I want to use performing arts and my interests in a positive way and really start a new movement for kids to be able to help kids,” she says.
