If you’re in Sydney this week you can catch Shaun Parker and Company… free!

TUT is a collaboration between the company and local street dancers. “TUT reinterprets the moves of Western Sydney’s teenage street dancers who have all developed their own tutting styles. Tutting is almost like the 'fingerprint' of each dance artist. TUT will celebrate the unique individuality of each dancer,” says Shaun Parker, who will work with more than thirty artists. “I felt it was important to keep TUT real by performing on an outdoor stage in a busy public place where Sydney residents can join the free performance.  What is wonderful is that people will discover the performances as they are going about their everyday life!”

Sounds good, but you might be wondering, what is TUT?

Tutting is a dance craze featuring highly intricate and rhythmic patterns formed by the dancers’ hands, fingers and arms. Inspired by Egyptian hieroglyphics, tutting combines hip hop, breakdancing, popping and locking, and has reference to ‘old school’ vogueing from the underground dance halls in New York in the 80s. It has re-emerged and gained new popularity as contemporary street dancers share the craze via YouTube and online videos.

You can catch TUT in Dixon Street Plaza in Chinatown at 6pm on 21 April 2016, and in Pitt Street Mall, between Market and King Streets at 6pm on 22 April.
