The February/March issue of Dance Australia features our annual Critics Survey. All major dance critics in the country have taken part in this survey, which asks them to nominate their choices in categories such as “Most Outstanding Dancer”, “Most Outstanding Choreography” and “Highlight of the Year”. Unlike awards, which narrow the wide and diverse field of dance to a small number of winners, this survey results in a broad overview in which all artists and companies, even the smallest, have a chance to be recognised.
Also in the February/March issue is an interview with Marilyn Rowe, in which she tells us of her deep and heartfelt commitment to nurturing her students at the Australian Ballet School. It is the School’s 50th Anniversary this year, and Rowe has decided to use this milestone as her time to retire from her exalted position as director of our national elite classical ballet institution.
The issue also features a catch-up with two graduates from two other important performing arts insitutions, ED5 and WA Academy of Performing Arts. See what exciting journey Emily Cascarino and Tobias Madden are travelling. And we have a fantastic interview with Ohad Naharin, the charismatic director of Batsheva Dance Company in Israel, which is coming to the Perth and Adelaide festivals.
The February/March issue is also the one in which we publish all the tertiary dance graduation reviews. And lots more that we don’t have room to mention here!
