Building on her recent success at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, Erin Fowler is presenting her first full-length stage performance at Nexus Cabaret from August 24-27.

Called Myth, the work is conceived, choreographed and directed by Fowler, and features Adelaide dancers Jessie Oshodi and Mikaila Roe.

In a tongue-in-cheek reference to the David Attenborough style of documentary, MYTH explores the many representations of the female ‘species’ and how women are often portrayed in ‘perfect’ and unattainable ways. Through theatrical and quirky movement, the dancers investigate these idealised images such as the ancient ‘goddess’, the cheerily content and domestic ‘housewife’, the dazzling ‘beauty’ with Barbie-like proportions, and, the ‘femme fatale’ with irresistible allure.

Myth was first performed as a short work at the 2011 Adelaide Fringe Festival as part of a show titled Teahouse, gaining a nomination for Best Dance in the Adelaide Fringe Awards; Erin was also nominated for the Festival Centre inSPACE: Development Award.

She was awarded a Helpmann Academy grant towards this production.
