“Nijinsky: Leap and Pause" is a photographic exhibition by artist Kate Baker, that takes the dancer Nijinsky as its starting point. The exhibition imagines Nijinsky’s inner and outer world. It seeks a modern expression of his creative essence. Baker worked with dancer Aleix Martinez, of the Hamburg Ballet, to make the works. The exhibition includes music composed by Petra Salsjo.
The exhibition opens 16 July at MARS Gallery in Melbourne and runs until 9 August. An opening event will be held Saturday 18 July, 3-5pm. Dancer Aleix Martinez will travel to Melbourne for an exclusive event at the gallery on Saturday 1 August, which will include a performance and informal discussion about the works. At the conclusion of the exhibition, MARS Gallery will continue to stock the photographs.
