Russell Dumas’s new work Love is Blind will open at Dancehouse next week.  Love is Blind is the first part of a series of works and investigates the intricate relationship between sight and sound, with focus upon how seeing is invariably shaped by what we hear.

The work is structured in two parts.  The first consists only of the movement and breath.  The second expands the exploration of sight and sound to include hearbeat, heartbreak and breath as expressed through Franz Schubert’s song cycles, now layered with Dumas’s movement sequence from part 1.  “Every solo dance is fundamentally multiple narratives that share both a heartbeat and a breath,” explains Dumas. “The heart generates and reflects emotional climate and orchestrates different rhythms while the breath gives melodic phrasing to both movement and language—in that order.”

Love is Blind plays Dancehouse, 28-30 March.  For more information, including booking info, go to www.dancehouse.com.au
