Emerging West Australian choreographer Isabella Stone will present her first full-length work at the State Theatre Centre of Western Australia next week. Entitled mouseprint, the work will be performed in the centre’s courtyard. It will feature local dancers Storm Helmore, Jenni Large and Ella-Rose Trew, with lighting by Chris Donnelly and sound by Brett Smith.
Stone explains that mouseprint explores the concept of words left unsaid, the tiny changes to agreements we enter into, and the constantly shifting dynamics of everyday human relationships. “I’m fascinated by people; the way we work, interact and communicate, says Stone. “The show started with a discussion I had with collaborator Ella-Rose Trew about how easily we signed things or ticked the ‘I agree’ box online, without even thinking. We wondered how often we do the same thing socially, how we just jump into things without asking questions or reading the fine print. This show continues to surprise me as I develop and explore the idea of the impulsive agreements and decisions we make all the time without knowing the fine print. It’s been a fascinating process communicating this idea in a physical form like dance, watching it find structure and take form.”
