Brisbane has a brand new festival of contemporary dance!

Entitled Supercell, the inaugural festival will be held at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts from 18-25 February 2017.

The name Supercell is a storm reference. Co-founded and curated by Kate Usher and Glyn Roberts, the idea for Supercell was born on the night of a tropical storm. The term refers to the collision of multiple particles to create a major event.

The 2017 launch program includes works by a range of Australian and New Zealand artists, including Gold Coast company The Farm, Melbourne-based duo Sarah Aitken and Rebecca Jensen, Sydney’s Amrita Hepi and New Zealand’s Wasasala.

International artists include Switzerland’s Simone Truong, who bring her young and vibrant company to Brisbane. Direct from the Guandong Dance Festival comes Guandong Modern Dance Company, as well as dance artists from Macau, Guandong and Hong Kong. Opening the festival will be Brisbane-born but UK-based Joseph Lau and Bridget Fiske.
