A film of Gideon Obarzanek’s 2004 work I Want to Dance Better at Parties will be airing on ABC1, June 24 at 10pm. Co-directed by Obarzanek and filmmaker Matt Bate, the film fuses documentary, drama and dance. It’s based on the stage production originally presented by Chunky Move, in which a grieving man in need of some form of human contact takes up dance classes.
I Want to Dance Better at Parties premiered at the 2013 Adelaide Film Festival and will also screen at the Sydney Film Festival, Monday 9 June at 4.30pm alongside Tender, by artist-filmmaker Lynette Wallworth. There will be a panel discussion and opportunity to meet the artists behind these works at a panel discussion entitled Cross Pollination: The Hive Project on Tuesday 10 June at 6pm.
