Sydney Eisteddfod McDonald’s Dance of Champions sees the best rival the best, as the top scoring dance groups from the Sydney Eisteddfod battle it out, dance-off style. There are two sets of prizes to be won – the People's Choice Award, voted by the audience, and the winners as chosen by the competition’s own jury. To up the ante, there are cash prizes up for grabs - $5000 for first place, $3000 for second and $2000 for third, and $500 for all unplaced finalists.
This year’s Dance of Champions was held on Sunday 25 August at the Science Theatre of the University of New South Wales. The jury awarded first place to dancers from the Conlan College, Turramurra. Lee Academy, Tuggerah, finished second and the Central School of Dance, Mt Hutton, came third. The People’s Choice Award was won by Brigidine College, St Ives, with Marie Walton Mahon Academy, Lambton, in second place and All Starz Performing Arts Studio, Peakhurst coming third.
The competition was recorded for television and will be screened nationally on Channel Ten on 27 October 2013.
