Queensland University of Technology’s new dance and movement studios will be officially opened as part of the CreateX Festival on Sunday 28 August. The new studios are part of an expansion of QUT’s Creative Industries Precinct at its Kelvin Grove campus.

The CreateX Festival will include a number of dance events, incuding a performance at the opening night gala by QUT alumni Michelle Ryan, artistic director of Adelaide-based youth dance company, Restless Dance Theatre.

There will also be performances by QUT dance students and external industry partners, as well as other QUT alumni, including Elise May of Expressions Dance Company. She will present excerpts from Shifting Lenses, a live interactive digital solo performance installation.

Queensland Ballet Pre-Professional Program artists will perform an excerpt from QUT Alumni Gareth Belling’s Transition Sequence, whilst graduating students will present site-specific works across various locations within the new building.

Classic dance films will be shown throughout the day and there will a children’s Moving’ & Groovin’ workshop, and hip-hop, Latin and Ethiopian dance workshops.
