In 2009, dance studio owner Miranda Daisy had a young girl with hearing impairments and Down Syndrome enrol in classes. This child was an asset to the class, remembers Daisy. “Her presence made every class rewarding and she absolutely lit up the stage at her end of year concert.” Daisy realise, however, that there was very little access to dance programs for those with special needs or disabilities. Determined to change the situation, in 2010 Daisy set up Perform-Ability, a dance, drama and music program for people of all ages which special needs and disabilities.

Now there are 14 Perform-Ability classes running in many locations, throughout Newcastle, the Central Coast and Sydney, with more than 120 students attending each week. One of these locations is Brent Street (Sydney), where Daisy herself trained. Perform-Ability can also travel to an organisation and hold a class tailored to student requirements, in a space suitable to needs.
