The OzAsia Festival is coming to Adelaide, 17 September – 2 October, and there are some fantastic dance works in the program.

From Hong Kong comes As If To Nothing by City Contemporary Dance Company. As If To Nothing is an examination of modernity, unique rhythms and psychological tension. Fourteen of Hong Kong’s best contemporary dancers delve into a multimedia landscape of memory, déjà vu and sensory distortion.

As If To Nothing plays Dunstan Playhouse,22-24 September.

Softmachine by Indonesian dancer Rianto is a solo that transcends gender. Rianto performs the traditional erotic dance Lengger in this solo performance alongside new contemporary styles. Moments of beauty are interspersed with documentary accounts of Rianto’s life as an international dancer.

Softmachine plays Space Theatre, 24-25 September.

Japanese choreographer and performer Hiroaki Umeda presents Split Flow & Holistic Strata. Blurring the boundaries between the physical dancer, light and sound, Umeda is a blistering storm of frenetic pixels, an optical dancer playing with the duality of light.

Split Flow & Holistic Strata plays Dunstan Playhouse 27-28 September.

Israeli dance company Vertigo will present Vertigo 20, piecing together select sequences from its 20 year history into a new full-length dance work. Moving between realism and surrealism, Vertigo 20 conveys a hypnotic physicality and moments of wit and sadness with a hint of mysticism.

Vertigo 20 plays Dunstan Playhouse 20 September – 1 October.

A Malaysian/Australian production, SK!N portrays the mental and physical torture of refugees, redefining the experience of theatre and challenging perceptions of performance.

SK!N plays the Maj Gallery 28 September to 1 October.
