October will see Chunky Move’s Complexity of Belonging hit Southbank Theatre.  Presented in collaboration with Melbourne Festival, Brisbane Festival and Melbourne Theatre Company as part of the Melbourne Festival, Complexity of Belonging sees Chunky’s artistic director Anouk van Dijk join forces with Germany’s Falk Richter, director in residence at Schaubuhne Berlin.

It’s the fifth time that van Dijk and Richter have collaborated.  Together they have developed a form of dance theatre in which text and choreography are inextricably linked.  Complexity of Belonging’s cast of nine interconnected individuals is made up of five dancers and four actors.  The work peers into their lives as they as they grapple with an essential question: how and where do I belong?  A darkly humorous exploration of identity in the age of social media, Complexity of Belonging sees nationality, gender, sexuality and history collide in this audacious, theatrical exposé of the daily trials of surviving in a hyperconnected, globalised society.

Complexity of Belonging runs 6 October – 1 November.  For bookings click here.
