You may have come across the playfully entitled book Don’ts for Dancers. First published in 1925, this tiny volume is full of light-hearted yet practical advice for the aspiring dancer.
Inspired by the tips in Don’ts for Dancers, Nerida Matthaei and Nicole Canham have created Don’t for Dancers 2.0, an absurd session in etiquette, dancing and (attempted) mating. Don’ts for Dancers 2.0 incorporates live music and a variety of dance styles ranging from contemporary to tango.
As the name suggests, Don’ts for Dancers 2.0 is the show’s second incarnation, the first touring Canberra and Queensland in 2012. The updated version sees new characters arrive and a few fresh moves thrown into the mix. Don’ts for Dancers 2.0 features former Melbourne Ballet Company member Alexander Baden Bryce and Polytoxic femme fatales Lisa Fa’alafi and Lisa Shelton.
Don’ts for Dancers 2.0 arrives at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts, Tuesday 16 July.
