Love talking dance? Sydney Opera House’s Culture Club is all about conversations that explore the arts and there are two discussions with a dance focus coming up.

Gideon Obarzanek
Gideon Obarzanek

The first, entitled Hi-Tech Stories, involves Gideon Obarzanek, director and choreographer, artistic associate with the Melbourne Festival and founder of Chunky Move. Obarzanek will contribute to a discussion about technology and storytelling in the arts with Lee Lewis (Griffin Theatre Company) and TL Uglow (Google Creative Labs).

This conversation will take place Tues 4 October. Head to the Sydney Opera House website for more info.

For those who are interested in the Diaghilev era, the second discussion, entitled “Nijinsky and Stravinsky – Creative Collaborators”, is a must. The 1913 premiere of the pair’s The Rite of Spring launched both their careers on a wave of controversy. In this conversation, artistic director of The Australian Ballet, David McAllister and musical director and chief conductor of the Australia Ballet Nicolette Fraillon will explore the lasting impact of Nijinsky and Stravinsky’s collaboration. The talk takes place Tuesday 1 November, ahead of the Sydney season of the Australian Ballet’s production of Nijinsky.
