Dance Australia congratulates Queensland Ballet dancer Lisa Edwards, who was promoted to soloist on the closing night of the company’s sold-out season of Ben Stevenson’s Cinderella.  Edwards gave performances as the Fairy Godmother and the Summer Fairy in the production.  Edwards was a popular choice in our “Nominate your most outstanding dancer" survey so we are sure many readers will be thrilled by her promotion.

Edwards has been dancing with Queensland Ballet (QB) since 2004. “Lisa’s passion for dance shines through in every role she dances,” comments QB artistic director, Li Cunxin. “Her dedication, pursuit of perfection and professionalism make her one of the leading lights of this wonderful company.  Lisa’s lyrical quality, beautiful lines, warmth and artistry delight audiences, and I’m so thrilled to promote Lisa to Soloist.”

Edwards herself is surprised and thrilled by the appointment. “I am very excited,” she says. “It was very special and something I’ll always remember, and to happen on the closing night of such a wonderful season of Cinderella made it all the more memorable!  I’ve always strived to achieve this, so it’s incredibly rewarding. I’ve been overwhelmed by the positive feedback from family, friends and our amazingly supportive audience.”

As QB’s first female soloist in its ensemble since 2008, Edwards sees a leadership side to her new role. “I hope I can inspire and encourage our talented young dancers, as so many soloists and principal dancers have helped me develop as an artist,” she reflects.

Audiences will have the opportunity to see Edwards perform in QB’s next production Giselle, which begins its regional tour 22 May and plays in Brisbane from 21 June.
