Choreographer Antony Hamilton will lead a workshop at Chunky Move Studios, the fourth for the year held under the dance company’s auspices.
The series is open to anyone interested in choreography and contemporary dance and will run over six Thursday evenings and will focus on devising, choreographing and performing.
Hamilton says: “Open to all levels of experience, beginner through to advanced, and looking at individual and collaborative choreography, the workshop will cover the main areas of my current practice. This practice is characterised by a number of complementary ideas around physical multi-tasking including arranging and memorising of numbered counting patterns, moving singular body parts autonomously and adding rhythmic vocal patterns.
“This and other complex systems of layering physical functions is at the core of my interest in choreographic design, yet these systems are often the catalyst for theatrical outcomes that end up bearing no relation to the initial departure point. In this sense they are a meditative strategy to derive foreign physical outcomes within our bodies, harbouring potential to be experienced in new contexts by both participants and viewers."
The series starts on October 27. The deadline to register is October 14.
