Featuring an array of contemporary Australian dancers and choreographers, including Kate Champion, Martin del Amo and Solon Ulbrich, director Karen Pearlman’s new documentary, …the dancer from the dance, tells stories of those whose lives are lived in dance. The film will be screened at Carriageworks (Sydney) on Saturday 30 November.
Pearlman explores what dancers mean when they say, “I am a dancer,” and who they would be if they stopped dancing, bringing out poignant and sometimes funny stories of people who live a life in dance. She also turns the camera on herself, ten years after quitting, to find out what is left. The cumulative stories reveal the art of movement as a force, passing through us, for a time, and then transforming into the next dancer, the next dance.
