Fast+Fresh Dance 2011 youth dance festival and competition has extended its deadline from Friday September 30 to Friday Oct 7 for DVD applications. For those wanting to audition a piece in person, “showing day” is Oct 12.
Following the success of its 2010 season, Fast+Fresh Dance is returning to the Riverside Theatres in Parramatta, Sydney, in November to showcase short dance works choreographed and performed by Sydney’s finest young talent.
A recent edition to the Short+Sweet family of festivals, Fast+Fresh Dance presents short, new and innovative dance works, up to five minutes in length, by choreographers up to 21 years of age. Each performance will go through one of four rounds of heats, which will be judged nightly by a panel of professionals. The heat winners will present their works as part of the Gala Final on Saturday November 19, 2011.
In keeping with the Short+Sweet tradition, all participants in Fast+Fresh Dance are eligible for sponsored awards such as Best Male Dancer, Best Female Dancer, Most Outstanding Choreography, Best New Talent and the Audience Choice Award.
Many participants of 2010’s season of Fast+Fresh Dance have gone on to perform with companies. For example Natasha Kay Newling, who was awarded Best Female Dancer last year, has performed with Youmove dance company and has joined a new dance company, the Austinmer Dance Theatre.
