BlakDance Australia Limited is thrilled to announce the launch of a new website showcasing talented Indigenous artists. As well as displaying news and information, the website features an innovative map of different Indigenous areas that can be clicked for up-to-date information on the activities of the artists in those areas. As the map illustrates, the website will be useful for tourists, as well as the arts industry and the general public.
BlakDance Australia Ltd is a newly formed peak body, advocating for Indigenous Contemporary Dance in Australia and embracing the richness and diversity of Australian Indigenous expression. The organisation is funded through the Australia Council for the Arts. Blakdance has grown out of the Treading the Pathways initiative, which began in 2005 as a response to the Indigenous dance industry.
Another exciting new initiative for the organisation is BlakDance 2012, a showcase event celebrating Indigenous contemporary dance. BlakDance 2012 will provide a platform for Australian and International choreographers to produce performances, forums, artists symposiums and master classes. This showcase will be held from 4 - 9 June 2012 at Queensland Theatre Company in Brisbane.
