It’s not easy for emerging contemporary choreographers and dancers to break into the independent dance scene in Australia. That is why the Dance Makers Collective formed in 2012 – to create opportunities for young artists to develop and show their work. According to Carl Sciberras - one of the driving forces of the collective -– DMC has empowered young artists “to speak louder about how amazing dance is by banding together as one”.
Now, the DMC is about to give its premiere performance in Sydney from October 23-26.
Called “Big Dance in Small Chunks”, the program will showcase nine short works by 10 passionate up-and-coming choreographers.
““We are bursting with ideas!” Carl says, “We decided to develop Big Dance in Small Chunks [because it gives] every member the chance to create and perform a short work using other members as dancers as well as for feedback and support.”
DMC has received the help of a great spectrum of organisations including FORM Dance Projects, Sydney Dance Company and Legs On The Wall.
