Bianca Scudamore has been promoted to First Soloist of the Paris Opera Ballet, effective 1 January 2026. The announcement marks the latest milestone in the career of one of Australia’s up and coming young artists, whose path from suburban studios to one of the world’s oldest ballet companies has been defined by discipline, musicality, and an unmistakable stage presence.
The recipient of numerous awards from an early age, including the Royal Academy of Dance Australia's Advanced 1 Bursary and a scholarship to attend The Australian Ballet School, Scudamore quickly distinguished herself as a dancer of exceptional promise. She earned two bronze medals at the Youth America Grand Prix in New York and reached the final round of the 2015 Prix de Lausanne as its youngest finalist, achievements that signalled her readiness for the international stage.
Scudamore’s early training was at the Brisbane Academy of Dance from 2004 to 2012, followed by three years under Janine McGrath at Classical Coaching Australia. Her success at Lausanne led her to the Paris Opera Ballet School, where she entered the second division class in 2015. Two years later she joined the Paris Opera Ballet and began a steady rise through its rank system. She was promoted to Coryphée in 2018, the same year she received the Second Prize in the junior category at the 28th Varna International Ballet Competition and was honoured with the Cercle Carpeaux award. In 2019 she advanced to Sujet and received the AROP Dance award.
Across her time with the company, Scudamore has embraced a wide range of repertoire, performing soloist roles and shining in new works. She concludes 2025 performing in Contrasts, a program featuring works by Trisha Brown, David Dawson, and Imre and Marne van Opstal at the Palais Garnier.
Her elevation to First Soloist places her among the leading artists of the company and signals a compelling new chapter in a career that continues to gather momentum on the international stage.
